Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

The Indian Council of Medical Research is the Regulatory Authority that governs the rules and regulations for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) in India. All ART institutions must adhere to the National Guidelines for Accreditation, Supervision & Regulation of ART Clinics in India, compiled by ICMR.
The Draft Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill – 2010 that is pending in the parliament if passed will provide for a national framework for the accreditations, regulation, and supervision of assisted reproductive technology clinics for:

  • Prevention of misuse of assisted reproductive technology,
  • The safe and ethical practice of assisted reproductive technology services
  • Matters connected therewith or incidental thereto

The Ministry of home affairs has issued that only clinics and institutions registered with the National Registry of ART Clinics and Banks in India can provide Surrogacy Services to Foreign Nationals.

Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR)

The Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction is a National Body that was started in 1991 to create awareness about Assisted Reproductive Technology and help in the propagation of knowledge about ART techniques and Infertility Management.
It organizes Annual National Conferences and International conferences on a regular basis. These conferences bring together prominent experts in this field from all over the world and act as a platform for discussing enhancements in ART technology, new treatment practices. These conferences have helped in assimilating knowledge from the world over and have been constructive in helping clinicians offer improved fertility services all over the country.

ISAR is affiliated with the International Federation of Fertility Societies since 2001 and offers accreditation to ART clinical and institutions. Its national registry has a systematic list of ART centers in India.
IHR received accreditation from ISAR in 2010 for the period of 2010 – 2013.

We are in the process of renewing the same for the next three years.
